It’s Timber Tuesday and today we’re going to lay out the timeline of building a log home, so you can be in it for next Christmas!
Imagine celebrating next Christmas in your own handcrafted log home. It’s more doable than you might think—let’s walk through the steps.
Picture this: a crackling fire warming your handcrafted stone hearth, the scent of fresh pine drifting from a towering Christmas tree nestled beside your spiral log staircase. Snow falls gently outside as your family gathers in cozy flannel, mugs of cocoa in hand, laughter echoing through the timber beams. Outside, snowshoes and sleds wait by the door, ready for a winter adventure through the woods. This isn’t just a holiday fantasy—it’s the kind of Christmas you could be living in your own custom log home next year.
At Cascade Handcrafted, we help families bring these dreams to life, and with the right planning, you can be celebrating the season in your new home by next December.
Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to get you there, based on our proven timeline.
Step 1: Design Your Dream (4 Weeks)
Every great log home starts with a great plan. Whether you’ve fallen in love with one of our existing floor plans or want to create something totally unique, we’ll work with you to design a home that fits your lifestyle, your land, and your vision.
We can help you:
This design phase usually takes about 4-6 weeks, including time for revisions.
Step 2: Engineering and Approval (8–16 Weeks)
Once your design is ready, it goes to a structural engineer. They’ll make sure your home is safe and strong built to handle snow, wind, earthquakes, and more. This step takes about 4 to 8 weeks, depending on how busy the engineers are.
After that, your plans go to your local district for approval. Every area has its own rules, and we’ll help make sure your plans meet them. This review can also take 4 to 8 weeks.
Together, these steps take about 2 to 4 months. That’s why it’s important to start early!
Step 3: Schedule the Build (4 Weeks)
Once your plans are approved and your permit is in hand, it’s time to schedule your build. We’ll pencil in a start date during the design phase, but the final schedule depends on when everything is ready.
The good news? We’re used to working with tight timelines. Our team can typically begin log work within 4 weeks of approval.
Each log is measured and matched to the design plan.
Step 4: Log Work and Delivery (4–6 Weeks)
The log work itself is fast and efficient. Most homes take 4 to 6 weeks per truckload of logs. A 2,000-square-foot home usually fits on two trucks, so you’re looking at about 8 to 12 weeks for log crafting.
Once the logs are ready, we ship them to your site and help with reassembly. From there, your contractor takes over to finish the home—roofing, plumbing, electrical, and all the cozy touches.
Your Christmas Countdown
Let’s do the math. If you start your design in late November, you can expect:
That puts you on track to move in before Christmas 2026—just in time to hang stockings by the fire.
