Building Custom Log Homes since 1999
In March of 2016 we were contacted by a lovely couple for a quote on a log home, to be built on their property in Washington.
This Piece-en-Piece project project is unique in that the traditional cross corners have been replaced by large cedar flared posts. The house is designed to be non-settling to minimize any shrinkage.
This style of log stacking is called Piece-en-Piece.
Here we are underway building the walls. These walls are prebuilt and then dropped into place between large diameter posts that are channeled or keyed.
For this log home we are using mortise and tenon joinery. This type of joinery has been used for thousands of years by woodworkers and logsmiths, mainly when the adjoining pieces that connect at an 90° angle. In its basic form it is both simple and strong. Although there are many joint variations, the basic mortise and tenon comprises two components: the mortise hole and the tenon tongue.
Here’s the log home project being re-assembled at the client’s property showing the stunning timber and log rafter combination.
