Post & Beam Homes

Post and beam homes are a popular alternative to full log building styles. The character of the real log is maintained using distinctive feature logs in the working structure, contrasting with conventional framed wall finishes filling in between. Post and beam construction is maintained the same as any conventional building with wooden finish components. Shrinkage and settling common to full log buildings are not significant in post and beam structures, so maintenance schedules are reduced.

These logs are then incorporated with conventional framing in a way that showcases the unique features of each log and traditional joinery. Post and Beam differs from timber framing in its use of scribing which allows the builder to use the logs in their natural forms.

Post and beam construction allows for the creation of open floor plans, featuring the working structure of the building and providing options for a wide range of wall finishes.

Post and beam structures typically cost less than full log buildings, because they require less volume of timber, though more intensive labor on each piece.
